Unlock the iPhone 6

Unlocking an iPhone 6
to use with a carrier other than your current one can be a frustrating
process. Unless you own the phone outright or having completed your
contract with your current carrier, the carrier has little incentive to
unlock it.
Additionally, if you are still under contract with a specific carrier or have received a subsidized price for your iPhone,
it isn’t legal to unlock it and move to a different carrier. If you are
still under contract, you don’t technically own the phone, yet. It is
for the best to check with your current carrier prior to attempting to
unlock your iPhone.
What is the best way to unlock an iPhone 6?
There are a few ways to unlock an iPhone. If your carrier will not do
it and you don’t want to Jailbreak your phone you can try one of the
following three ways. Unfortunately, only one of the methods is safe and
recommended for your iPhone:
Software Unlocking. This method is
definitely not recommended. Most of the software unlocking methods are
scams and designed to take your money. The actual software doesn’t have
great availability and you will regret trying it.
Network Unlocking. By far the easiest and
safest method to unlock an iPhone 6 is using IMEI services. The IMEI
(Internet Mobile Station Equipment Identity) number is unique to your
cell phone. There are many services that can have your IMEI number added
to a whitelist of unlocked iPhone 6. The list is kept by Apple and it
doesn’t require software downloads, hardware swaps and it will not void
your warranty.
Can I Jailbreak an iPhone 6?
Jailbreaking your iPhone is still legal in the United States, at
least until 2015, but Apple has already released the upgraded iOS8.1.1
to confound the current generation of Jailbreak methods.
Companies and groups who Jailbreak iPhones for fun and profit are
already working on iOS8.1.1 and it is only a matter of time before a new
Jailbreak method is available.
If you use Jailbreak on your iPhone 6, it not only allows you to
switch carriers, it also allows you to download apps and programs that
are not officially supported by the Apple Store.
Can you buy an unlocked iPhone 6?
There is only one carrier that is offering unlocked iPhone 6s for
sale in the United States. Other countries have different carriers and
each carrier has its own standards for selling unlocked iPhones. In the
United States, according to the Apple forums, if you purchase the iPhone 6 from Apple, for use on T-Mobile, or from T-Mobile (contract-free) they come already unlocked.
Of course, that means that you will be paying full price for the iPhone 6.
Final thoughts
A locked phone binds you to the carrier that you purchased it from
until the iPhone 6 is paid off and your contract is completed. If you
want to purchase an unlocked phone or have your own phone unlocked, you
will have to own it completely. Either finish paying it off or buying an
unsubsidized one from, currently, T-Mobile in the United States.
Even though the out of pocket expense will be greater, you do not run
the risk of getting in trouble with law enforcement. It also doesn’t
void the warranty if you use an IMEI number service or start with an
unlocked phone.
